Ironic imagination--which allows a person to hold two opposites in creative tension--can be a great asset to a depressed person seeking to get "beyond blue." Case studies illustrate this approach to pastoral intervention, which, it is argued, sits at the core of New Testament spirituality as expressed in the work of Jesuit theologian William Lynch.
